White Island is a unique location and makes a  spectacular backdrop for film, video or photographic productions.

Recent productions that have been made on White Island include:

• "Who Dares Wins" - A tandem sky dive to land on the crater floor and not in one of the active craters. It was successful!

Advertisement backdrop for Dow Chemicals (USA).

Filming location for "Journey to the Centre of the Earth".

Japanese game show

The spectacular land (or moon) scape of White Island has been often been used to depict a wide variety of backdrop requirements. e.g. "Lord of the Rings" footage.

Car commercial for Chevrolet where they took a "Chevy Tahoe" to the island.

Points to Note

• First and foremost White Island is a scenic reserve. Any activities undertaken on the Island must gain prior approval from the owner's representative and be able to satisfy the conditions of landing and use.
• An additional fee is charged for landing on the Island where activities undertaken are not of a private tourist nature.
• It is  also important that any visitor to White Island does not disturb the IGNS monitoring or testing equipment that are in place on the Island.
• Note: The Institute of Geophysical and Nuclear Sciences ( IGNS ) have free and unlimited access to the Island for any research work carried out on behalf of the Government of New Zealand.
